Postby liquidforce » Thu Aug 21, 2014 7:17 pm

For all of you who want to retrofit RNS 850 Navigation System into your 150kw Touareg 7P Bluemotion
Book yourself a full day ahead, best to do it mid week as you will need to take the SUV to VW dealer for Component Protection Removal from CAN gateway, Radio and Information Electronics.

1. Remove the RCD 550 unit - 4 Audi Removal keys and 2 screws at the top plus a plastic TORQ on the inside
Image
2. Remove the top storage compartment - it pulls out
Image
3. Gently take out the RCD550 radio and disconnect the Quadlock, fakra connectors and OPS, emergency light plugs
Image
4. You will need to dismantle C,D pillars and both sides of the boot to the bare bone
Image
5. You are left with Quadlock, Radio fakra, RVC fakra and 2 connectors for OPS & Hazard Lights
Image
6. Gently remove the glovebox and watch out for the light on the RHS of it - Main Unit lives there
Image
7. Connect the Retrofit Harness to Quadlock, Radio Fakra, camera pins(5GND 11SIG), LVDS cable and connect the LCD
Image
8. Gently pull out the CAN gateway hidden behind the insulation and fit the MOST CAN gateway with fibre optics.
Image
9. You will see a fibre optic red light light up - clip in the Gateway into the mounting
Image
10. Connect the Main unit & radio at the back and RNS 850 starts to work - dont switch the car if you want to test it
Image
11. Connection to main unit is MOST, LVDS to grey plug, Quadlock, Radio - MOST, Quadlock and double fakra
Image
12. You can leave the main unit on the floor and slowly head to VW dealer to remove Component Protection
Image
13. If you have not switched on the ignition you can play around with the settings of your new RNS 850 system
Image
14. Our RNS 850 has preloaded and preactivated 2014 maps with 535 System Software - its not on Sunny Coast yet
Image
15. VCDS will give you lot of faults which can be rectified later - you can decode installation list for the extra modules
Image
16. If you get this picture, this means the system is not able to take Component Protection off
Image
17. This message means the component protection has been removed successfully
Image
18. Now your system should work just fine with some extra features which need coding
Image
19. After a bit of work with VCDS (which I would leave to experienced tech)
Image
20. Your RNS 850 system is fully operational and you can enjoy $6600 system for less than half price

You are left with routing the harness under the trims, perfectly on the RHS.
Bracket for the radio is on the car in the RHS of the boot
You must dismantle Infotainment gateway which is on the LHS of the boot
You can dismantle Bluetooth from under the driver seat - and sell it on ebay
You must dismantle MDI kit from the glovebox - and sell it on ebay

The kit is on promo and can be purchased off our website with free shipping for Watercooled Members:

The harness part of it is necessary unless you have ELSA and good week to make 3 kilograms of wiring:

Touareg system is based on Audi A6 A7 A8 MMI 3G Touch Systems and Audi 2014 Maps are fully compatible

The job should take you all day to complete and re-install all in place with due care and diligence.
We would advise to leave the coding to a pro workshop but if you like risk, its not a bad idea to save a bit of money.
Euro Car Upgrades can install the kit almost Australia wide - QLD NSW & VIC and possibly WA at $999 plus VW charge
